JSW Foundation is the social development arm of the US$ 13 billion JSW Group, one of India’s leading business houses. It has a long track record and a rich legacy of empowering rural communities to enrich their lives  since the last three decades. The Foundation’s focus areas are Education, Health & Nutrition, Skill Development, Rural BPO, Environment & Water, Sports, and Art & Heritage. Through a strong field presence, it operates across 22 rural locations in 11 Indian States with priority on communities around JSW’s plant & port locations.

JSW Foundation also reaches out to communities beyond these locations to contribute towards India’s social development in a meaningful way. During the Covid-19 pandemic, the Foundation supported various communities & families by providing food and healthcare facilities across all these locations.JSW Foundation’s holistic life-cycle based interventions have positively impacted more than a million underprivileged people across India. It operates two multi-specialty hospitals in Karnataka & Maharashtra with outpatient potential of 100,000 annually.

JSW Foundation Fellowship was born out of the conviction that young Indians today have immense leadership potential and the power to transform the world around them. With the right training and mentorship, this potential can be nurtured and youth can be equipped to become changemakers at the grassroots level.

The programme is spearheaded by JSW Foundation and iVolunteer.

The JSW Foundation Fellowship is a transformative two-year youth leadership programme for the most promising young people of the country, that empowers them with deep insights of social development and nurtures a commitment to social change.

Through a personalised leadership journey, Fellows are equipped to formulate their own understanding of rural and social development, support community and youth development, and affect change at the grassroots level.

The PremiseIn the current context of the world as we battle climate change at a global level, economic inequality in the country is at an all-time high and advancement of technology provides immense opportunity for growth, we need young leaders with aspiration and potential who are risk-taking, believe in social change, are ready to commit to nation building, and willing to get their hands dirty, to tackle some of the challenges that rural India faces.

Fellowship Design

Our Fellowship program aims to equip 20 extraordinary leaders  with a deep understanding of social development at the grassroots level and enable them to formulate their own understanding of rural and social development in India, through four key programme pillars .

Eligibility

JSW Foundation iVolunteer Fellowship will take a young professional through a personal leadership journey and empower them to formulate their own understanding of rural and social development in India

Location : The JSW Foundation Fellowship projects are currently located across districts in Maharashtra and Karnataka. Depending on the project you are assigned you will be working in one of these regions.

Fellow Support

Fellows will be monitored for their progress and learnings. As an open Fellowship program, a comprehensive assessment comprising of the following will be undertaken. On successful completion, the Fellows will become lifelong ambassadors of the Fellowship.

What is my role as a JSW Foundation Fellow?

  • Understand the challenges faced and the interventions needed in the specific project theme at the location assigned
  • Based on your understanding, design a project you will work on, with achievable objectives across two years
  • Research on possible interventions, design and plan the implementation of innovative ideas
  • Connect with the required network for the project, whether mentors, peers or expert organisations
  • Implement solutions and measure the impact of the interventions

Fellows will be assigned projects in one of the following thematic areas:

Sanitation

Sanitation

Innovative and sustainable interventions towards waste management.Environment: Mapping biodiversity of the region, protection and conservation of mangroves, building awareness of the forest rights act and working in tandem with the joint forest management committee.

What will I gain from the programme?

  • Understand challenges faced by rural communities and un-learn previously held perspectives on social issues.
  • Gain insights on development theory and interact with sector experts.
  • Field mentors and leadership guides will support you on your own leadership quest, acting as a sounding board for the innovations you propose and challenging you to go out of your comfort zone.
  • Receive mentorship on your leadership quest and move out of your comfort zone.
  • Unlock a vast network of development professionals.
  • Become alumni of the fellowship and gain lifelong access to a tribe of committed young professionals.
  • The ability to chart your own course, and take up leadership positions in the social impact space.

Eligibility : To apply for the JSW Foundation Fellowship Programme you must be

  • A graduate/post graduate or a young professional with 1-7 years of work experience from a field such as science, humanities, engineering, medicine, agriculture or other professional streams.
  • Less than 29 years old as on 1st May 2022
  • Conversant in English (as a primary medium of training) and at least 1 Indian language (for field projects)

While a professional background in social work is not mandatory, those aware of the social sector and NGOs and have had a brief stint with the sector through sporadic or structured engagements are encouraged to apply.

Financial Support

As a JSW Foundation Fellow, you will receive the following support:

A monthly stipend of Rs 30,000 to cover the cost of boarding, lodging and other living expenses

Travel expense reimbursement to attend trainings and travel to field projects. Any other travel expenses incurred on instruction of the programme management team will also be reimbursed.

An optional exposure visit (relevant to the field project / domain of Fellows’ interest) outside the field project. Each Fellow may apply once for the exposure visit during the Fellowship tenure

Application Process

Potential applicants understand the risks and are willing to commit time for a deep engagement and a potential career in development.

  • Step 1: Register on the website and fill out the online application form
  • Step 2: Applicants to undergo a stringent screening process through telephone interviews
  • Step 3: Shortlisted candidates to attend an assessment day where they will be put through various activities to determine their suitability for and commitment to, the programme
  • Step 4: Selected Fellows will be invited to join the JSW Fellowship Programme
