About Telangana State Innovation Cell:
Telangana State Innovation Cell (herein referred to as TSIC) is an initiative by the Information Technology, Electronics & Communications Department, Government of Telangana. TSIC was set up in 2017 under the State Innovation Policy with a vision— to build and nurture the Culture of Innovation in the State of Telangana. Today, it acts as the first response of the State Government for identified innovators, start-ups, entrepreneurs, and innovation catalysts to foster an inclusive innovation ecosystem with State-as-a-whole-approach.

About “Innovation Fellow – Grassroots Innovation”
The Innovation Fellowship Program has been conceptualised with a vision to bring in young and energetic graduates/professionals (irrespective of the sectors) with a passion to work on nurturing innovation and entrepreneurship in the State, specific to the focus area they pursue the expertise.

The fast-paced nature of work necessitates the requirement of people who can bring in fresh ideas, take complete ownership, and work independently to ensure that they are delivered.  During the fellowship, the fellows will be able to develop program/initiatives from strategy-level to execution. During the period of fellowship, they will gain first-hand experience working with Innovation & Entrepreneurship ecosystem of the state. The first 4 weeks of the program will be spent learning about the existing projects of the TSIC-Foundation and identifying areas of scaling the same, while conceptualizing new projects. The next 11 months will be spent on detailing out and executing the projects.

The intended role – Innovation Fellow – Innovations in Grassroots Innovation is part of the Grassroots Innovation vertical of TSIC. The incumbent innovation fellow will work in close tandem with the existing Grassroots Innovation team.

About Grassroots Innovation
Grassroot Innovation is a term that has gained recent popularity in India and other developing nations. While the term “Grassroot Innovation” can be understood by alloying the meaning of the word “Grassroot” and “Innovation” together; its ambit can hardly be contained in the definition. But for the sake of clarity, we would define “Innovation”, “Grassroot” and “Grassroot Innovation” to make the initial contours of this framework.

Innovation: An idea/product which is unprecedented/novel manifested through its usage of either one or multiple of the undermentioned:

  • Method
  • Material
  • Application
  • Business System

Roles & Responsibilities

  1. Grassroots Innovation Fellow while working in their individual skilled capacity, responsible for implementing certain projects identified and working in close tandem with the existing team members in the vertical
  2. Should strategise at-least one new program/project/initiative in Innovations in Government vertical
  3. Should be pursuing complete ownership of existing & new project/program/initiative from conceptualisation to execution.
  4. Should drive decision-making through critical/thorough analysis.
  5. Be able to manage/liaison with relevant ecosystem stakeholders, onboarded for the program/project/initiative.
  6. Should complement the overall programs/projects/initiatives of the organisation.
  7. Should conceptualise, create, collate, and document all the necessary information pertaining to the program/project/initiative at various stages, that could be used for internal & external communication

Key Skills & Knowledge required

  1. Problem solving skills
  2. Theory of Change/Design Thinking
  3. Thorough understanding on Sustainable development Goals (SDGs)
  4. Understanding of the Innovation context in Telangana and India
  5. Facilitation and moderation skills

Experience

  1. Up to 2 years of experience in similar work – NGOs, CSRs, Govt
  2. Experience of conducting meetings, trainings, workshops with various stakeholders
  3. Hands on experience of writing reports, documents
  4. Hands on experience of managing data and analysing the same

Academics: Graduate/postgraduate in Any discipline
