The Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED) is a solution-driven research organization working on various environmental issues over the Indo-Gangetic Plains (including Delhi, Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, and West Bengal), central highlands (Madhya Pradesh) and the Chhota Nagpur plateau region (Jharkhand). The core research domains of CEED include ambient air quality management and planning, particulate source apportionment, development of high-resolution emission inventories, clean air action and micro-action plans, and district-specific climate action plans. In addition to its core research activities, CEED also serves as a local technical partner to the Jharkhand State Pollution

Control Board (JSPCB) on ambient air quality issues over the state.

The Centre for Environment and Energy Development (CEED-India), Ranchi, India is seeking 2 Research Associates (RA) to work on various ongoing projects on air quality modelling, waste management, and, district-level climate action plan.

Job Description

1. Research Associate (Environment)

Roles:

  • To conduct research/review and techno-economic assessment related to broader environmental issues including but not limited to waste management, air quality, and energy transition etc.
  • To prepare peer-reviewed scientific documents, policy notes, presentations, knowledge papers and other relevant documents.
  • To represent CEED at various public and scientific forums and communicate the organization’s vision effectively.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ph.D. in Environmental Science/Environmental Engineering/Environment Management/Civil Engineering/Chemical Engineering/Environmental Economics/Sustainability Science with a specialization in either Green House Gas accounting/Air Pollution/Environmental Impact Assessment/Life Cycle Assessment/Ecological Modelling/ Forestry/Waste Management/Bioremediations/Industrial pollution control or related topics.
  • Candidates with M.Tech/M.Sc with 2+ years of relevant experience and a strong academic background in the above-mentioned areas are also encouraged to apply.
  • Strong programming skills with data analysis preferably in Remote Sensing and GIS mapping.
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English.

Desirable Qualifications (but not essential):

  • NET/JRF/Direct-SRF/GATE qualifications in Environmental Sciences/Earth Sciences/
  • Ecology and Evolution/Life Sciences/Civil Engineering etc.
  • Basic understanding of statistics and data interpretation.

Ability to work well both independently and with a diverse group of people.

2. Research Associate (Climate)

Roles:

  • To conduct research/review and modelling exercises related to climate and air quality issues.
  • To prepare peer-reviewed scientific papers, policy notes, presentations, knowledge papers and other relevant documents.
  • To represent CEED at various public and scientific forums and communicate the organization’s vision effectively.

Essential Qualifications:

  • Ph.D in any branch of Science or Engineering with a specialization in air quality modelling/climate modelling/Emission Inventory development/aerosol source apportionment/trace gases/remote sensing of atmospheric pollution.
  • Candidates with M.Tech/M.Sc with 2+ years of relevant experience and a strong academic background in the above-mentioned areas are also encouraged to apply.
  • Strong programming skills with experience in big-data analysis preferably in Earth System Science or climate data.
  • Proficiency in any of the programming languages (i.e., R, Python, MATLAB, IDL etc.) is compulsory.
  • Excellent written and oral communication in English.

  • NET/JRF/Direct-SRF/GATE qualifications in Environmental Sciences/Earth Sciences/Physical Sciences/Chemical Sciences/Engineering Sciences etc.
  • Basic understanding of statistics/socio-economic and policy issues w.r.t. climate change.
  • Ability to work well both independently and with a diverse group of people.

This is a long-term position with an initial employment contract of 1 year, including a 3-month probationary period. The period of employment will begin as soon as possible.
