United Way improves lives by mobilizing the caring power of communities around the world to advance the common good.

The Fellowship Program is an intensive, year-long leadership development experience that builds leadership capacity, core competencies, strong relationships, and a network of peers. The program is framed within the context of United Way’s performance, the business model, community impact and revenue development. The program helps identify, engage, and develop a diverse group of United Way’s top-performing mid-career professionals from across the worldwide network and prepares them for success in their United Way career.

Who should attend?

High-performing and high-potential mid-career professionals including experienced managers, directors, senior directors and new vice presidents are encouraged to apply. Applicants must first be nominated by either their CEO or their team’s vice president/c-suite leader.

Applications are now being accepted! Network staff can go to United Way Online to apply (login required). The application deadline is February 26.

Participation in this year-long leadership series is $4,250.

Due to exchange rates and membership agreements with our international United Ways, we are offering a 17% discount to attendees from the International Network.

As you plan, keep in mind that this event is eligible for flexible credit use! Check out the flexible credit policy (United Way Online access required) for details about flexible credits.

Limited scholarships available.

NOTE: The majority of the cost of United Way’s leadership programs is subsidized by United Way Worldwide.

What you’ll learn?

The Fellowship Program provides participants the opportunity to build their practical leadership skills and cultivate a mindset of curious exploration with a cohort of true peers. Delivered in 3 sessions across 7 months, the program facilitates participants’ mastery of the following skills:

  • Colloboration: building a diverse network and improving relationships in order to source better information and make better decisions
  • Investigation: identifying the root causes of problems and developing more creative solutions aligned to the strategic priorities of participants’ United Ways
  • Persuasion: crafting and delivering powerful messages that appeal to hearts and minds in order to influence decisions and lead change

NOTE: Due to the ongoing COVID-19 pandemic, the Fellowship Program will be delivered virtually with no additional time commitments. Each session will be divided into 2.5-hour or 4-hour time blocks and carried out over several weeks.
