Swaniti Initiative is a non-partisan, social enterprise that delivers development solutions to policy makers and representatives. Swaniti works with State Governments and Parliamentarians across 17 states. Swaniti supports addressing the issues of health, education, gender, water, sanitation, climate change and livelihood. We work through a three-pronged approach: provide research support on key government programs and initiatives, on ground implementation insights for delivery of public service and technological intervention to improve service delivery

1. Associate – Clean Air (Contractual)

Associate – Clean Air is an opportunity for committed youths to work with Hon’ble Members of Parliament (MPs) on air pollution and allied issues. The Associates would be expected to drive policy issues at the national level and create a visible impact at the constituency. The job majorly requires exceptional research skills, ability to coordinate with diverse stakeholders, multitask, with problem-solving attitude and polished communication skills.

Job details:

Undertake continuous research on air pollution/allied domains to produce succinct briefs/papers/ knowledge products related to:

  • National and state-level policy and programs
  • Constituency specific issues
  • Innovations and best practices at the local, national and international level

Undertake output-oriented engagement/activities at constituency/state//national level with:

  • Local Government, civil society, youths, citizenry and think tanks etc.
  • Corporate Social Responsibility wing of Industry
  • Organize public-facing events on air pollution and allied issues

Facilitate implementation of programs and policies by:

  • Supporting interdepartmental convergence and coordination for tangible outcomes
  • Undertaking field visits to gather on-ground insights for identifying potential areas of intervention
  • Participating in relevant meetings of local administration
  • Mapping the capacity building areas of local administration
  • Coordination with the local administration to achieve programmatic deliverables/identified targets
  • Collect programmatic data from stakeholders

Support legislative work related to clean air and any other component as and when required by Hon’ble MPs:

  • Identify critical gaps at constituency and national level to be undertaken
  • Draft parliamentary interventions
  • Background research for Parliamentary interventions
  • Examine relevant bills
  • Research for standing committees meetings, as applicable
  • Research to identify possible areas for Private Member Bills
  • Support for District Development Coordination and Monitoring Committee (DISHA) Meetings
  • Overall research support beyond air pollution and allied issues, as and when required

Others:

  • Ability to understand complex issues related to the environment, sustainability and pollution
  • Support local administration through research, technical assistance, field visits, monitoring and community mobilization etc.
  • Identify, create a pool and coordinate to execute activities with Grassroots organizations/CSR wings of Industry working in the domain of air pollution and related issues
  • Presenting relevant national-level policies/reports/briefs in a succinct and comprehendible manner to local stakeholders
  • Ability to identify micro-level issues and connect them to macro-level issues
  • Identify, scale up and highlight relevant local interventions
  • Document administrative requirements/reports/findings, media pieces/local success stories etc. for larger dissemination
  • Highlighting and drafting pieces on local innovations
  • Highlight relevant issues pertaining to air pollution/allied issues for DISHA Committee meetings
  • Increase the visibility of Parliamentarians on the air pollution/allied issues
  • Facilitate study and exposure tours

Required Essentials:

  • Graduate or post-graduate degree related to Climate Change, Economics, Environmental Management/Law, Public policy, international development, or other alike from a reputed university
  • 3-4 years of experience working on air pollution/climate/environment policy and programs or related fields
  • Knowledge and awareness about standard policymaking procedure and functioning of Parliament
  • Understands Union and State Government’s functioning and structures
  • Advance understanding of programs and policies related to air pollution
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills, with competencies around articulating ideas succinctly on issues of air pollution and allied issues
  • Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to communicate effectively with a wide variety of stakeholders
  • Ability to establish linkages between air pollution and other forms of public discourse
  • Demonstrated ability to understand Parliamentary procedures, comprehend reports of Parliamentary Committees, Ministries and various National and International experts/stakeholders/agencies
  • Skills to understand budgets and financial provisions made by Union and State Governments

Desirable:

  • Experience of working with public representatives
  • Preference will be given to those who have worked with Government on pollution and allied sectors
  • Have worked previously in the state for which you have applied and are well versed with local language
  • Understanding of capacity building needs of stakeholders
  • Knowledge on; air pollution, climate change, clean energy and clean transportation and their impact
  • Ability to understand India’s international negotiation position on climate with respect to United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) processes and its relevance to Indian states

Location: As per the preference of Hon’ble MP; constituency, state capital, or New Delhi etc.

States: Uttar Pradesh, Bihar, Assam, Tamil Nadu, Andhra Pradesh and Kerala

Minimum engagement duration: 10 – 12 months

Consolidated remuneration: INR 50,000 per month

2. Associate – Peoples Team

Job summary:

Swaniti Initiative is looking for a professional with action bias, who is eager to contribute in the recruitment, Human Resource Processes and supporting the Peoples’ Team in maintaining a strong talent management system. The associate will be engaged in designing JDs, building campaigns for sourcing candidates as per the requirements in the organisation for various projects, take care of the logistics for processes of the recruitment, onboarding and maintain records. The role requires the individual to understand the HR processes in development sector, objectives of the organisation and the skill sets required to deliver on project.  Understanding of public policy will be super helpful. The associate will be providing assistance to the team for the end-to-end steps of the recruitment process.

Roles and Responsibilities:

  • Assisting in conducting end to end process of talent acquisition and management which starts at preparing the job description and ends with the lifecycle of engagement with the individual
  • Assist the People’s Team in managing the performance of the team members
  • Conceptualizing and conducting new creative initiatives for creation of better talent pool
  • Assist in meeting all necessary compliances of Human Resource processes in a time bound manner

3. Associate – Media and communications

Motive:  Design & deploy systems and processes to enhance the visibility of the organisation

About the Position

We are looking for a communications professional who is keen on taking up a role which is focused on enhancing the visibility of the work of the organisation in public space and conduct outreach for the purpose of partnership with institutions of eminence across the world. The Associate plays a critical role by being responsible for interacting with team members of various projects, understanding the value of the impact created and carving out stories from the same. The role requires the individual to understand nuances of brand development, generic awareness of public policy, objectives of the organisation and the appropriate institutions with whom mutually empowering partnerships may be built. It requires dynamic outlook, an eye for identifying opportunities, an attitude of staying abreast with ongoing development, technological interventions in communication and ability to handle the digital and physical presence of the organisation. As a part of the Media and Communication team, the associate will be required to ensure that the websites, social media channels, media relations, events’ coverage, other physical visibility and communication with institutions is of high quality and consistent.

Qualifications required:

  • Masters degree in either of media and communication, public policy, journalism, globalisation or alike subjects with a preference for those having a multidisciplinary academic profile

About the Position

We are looking for a development sector professional who is keen on taking up a role which is focused on enhancing the processes of knowledge management and ensuring development of team members. The Associate – L&D plays a critical role by being responsible for interacting with team members of various projects, understanding their professional needs and then designing modules or mobilising experts to supply required skills and knowledge. The role requires the individual to have an eye to trace skill gaps, understand the paradigm of public policy, comprehend objectives of the organisation and the corresponding capabilities required in individuals to realise the vision. It also requires the person to have a bias towards creating systems for sustained focus on learning and development.
