Research on Understanding Covid-19’s Impact on Women’s Wellbeing
Background and Objective
Covid-19 has exacerbated the pressures on women within rural households. We have multiple reports and literature suggesting that violence has increased during the pandemic, globally. Closure of schools and day-care institutions, loss of jobs, illness, death, and return of migrants back home are some of the factors that altered the situations for women across the nation but more particularly in villages. Further lack of availability and easy access to health services, digital and banking facilities intensified their vulnerabilities. From our field discussions with women’s groups and community leaders, we found many women seeking help from abusive households.
To understand the impact of Covid-19 within the rural household, particularly on women and adolescent girls, Seva Mandir aims to conduct qualitative research focussing on understanding:
1. Impact of Covid-19 on women and adolescent girls.
2. Understand how grassroots leadership/institutions responded to the crisis
3. Interlinkages of mental health and women’s well being
4. Map policies that respond to the concern
This research assignment will be undertaken over a period of 5 months, beginning November 2021 to March 2022. You will be paid a remuneration of Rs. 30,000 per month.
