GirlScript Summer of Code is the 3 month long Open Source program during summers conducted by GirlScript Foundation, started in 2018, with an aim to help beginners get started with Open Source Development while encouraging diversity. Throughout the program, participants contribute to different projects under guidance of experienced mentors. Top participants get exciting goodies and opportunities.

Following are the responsibilities for each role:

1. Content Writer

Responsibilities:

  • Develop a content calendar outlining key events and milestones for the Girlscript Summer of Code program.
  • Create engaging and informative email communications to participants, mentors, and stakeholders.
  • Draft letters of appreciation for contributors, sponsors, and partners.
  • Generate content for social media posts across various platforms to promote program updates and achievements.
  • Write blog articles highlighting project highlights, participant stories, and program announcements.
  • Produce video content for vlogs showcasing behind-the-scenes insights, interviews, and program highlights.
  • Compile and maintain an updated portfolio of previous content work for reference and evaluation.
  • Collaborate with design and social media teams to create visually appealing content assets.
  • Conduct regular content audits to ensure consistency, accuracy, and alignment with program goals.

2. Graphic Designer

Responsibilities:

  • Design posters, pamphlets, and flyers for the social media handles and website.
  • Designing sponsorship brochures and infographics for the program.
  • Brainstorm and develop innovative design concepts, templates, and layouts for marketing collateral and updates related to the program.

Note: Should have experience in working with tools like Canva, Figma or Adobe Photoshop

3.Leaderboard Specialist

Responsibilities:

  • Curate and maintain a leaderboard of program participants, showcasing top contributors, projects, and achievements.
  • Monitor participant progress and activity to ensure accurate leaderboard rankings and updates.
  • Coordinate with program managers and mentors to verify and validate participant achievements and contributions.
  • Collaborate with the public relations team to promote the leaderboard and highlight top performers through social media and other channels.
  • Continuously optimize the leaderboard system to ensure accuracy, fairness, and effectiveness in driving participant engagement and program success.

 4. Public Relations Officer

Responsibilities:

  • Develop and implement a comprehensive public relations strategy to increase awareness and engagement with the program.
  • Coordinate speaker outreach, campus ambassador campaigns, social media outreach, and networking events.
  • Manage social media channels to promote program activities, engage with participants, share updates and enhance brand visibility and engagement.
  • Monitor social media channels for mentions, comments, and engagement, and respond promptly to enquiries and feedback.
  • Collaborate with content and design teams to develop visually appealing graphics and multimedia content for social media.

5. Sponsorship

Responsibilities:

  • Identify and reach out to potential sponsors who align with the goals and values of the program.
  • Act as a primary point of contact for sponsors through regular communication, addressing inquiries, and providing updates on program developments.
  • Collaborate with sponsors to understand their needs and objectives, and tailor sponsorship packages accordingly.
  • Coordinate sponsor-related activities such as logo placement, branding opportunities, and acknowledgment during program events.
  • Develop and maintain sponsorship prospect lists and databases to track interactions and progress.

6. Web Developer (UI/UX)

Open Positions:  Web Developers and UI/UX

Responsibilities:

  • Build innovative web features that enhance user experience, ensuring seamless integration of UI/UX design principles.
  • Write clean and efficient code that is easy to maintain and scales effectively.
  • Regularly update the website to reflect the latest updates and improvements.
  • Identify and resolve any bugs or issues that arise during development.
  • Stay updated with emerging technologies and industry trends to continuously improve web development practices, including UI/UX enhancements.

7.Community Moderator

Responsibilities:

  • Shortlisting participants, mentors, and projects for GirlScript Summer of Code 2024.
  • Managing the activities of participants, mentors, and project admins throughout the program for smooth progress.
  • Work collaboratively with project admins during the contributing period.
  • Handle the responsibilities of creating and maintaining Google forms.

8.Discord Manager

Responsibilities:

  • Discord Moderation and assisting in various mini events to occur in the program.
  • Manage channels for each project and assign them to mentors and PAs.
  • Post announcements and help solve potential problems on the Discord server.
