The Centre for Budget and Policy Studies (CBPS) is a non-partisan, non-profit, independent public policy research institution based in Bangalore. For the past twenty-six years, we have been working in the areas of education, gender, public finance and governance, health and sanitation, focusing on research, evaluation and evidence-based policy making engaging with issues of equity, justice, empowerment, democracy and accountability.
The CBPS Research Fellowship programme commenced last year as we celebrated our 25th Year Anniversary. This is a one-year Research Fellowship programme where we identify budding researchers for mentoring. This is a call for application from young researchers to be part of the second cohort of the fellowship.
We are accepting applications for the second cohort of Research Fellows for 2024 – 2025. Submit your application by 15 April 2024.
About the CBPS Research Fellowship
The Fellowship aims to help scholars develop research skills in the areas of Education, Gender, Governance, Health & Nutrition, Public Finance, Livelihoods and Social Security. The Fellows will be working in the CBPS office located in Bangalore and will interact with our research staff to gain valuable experience, support, and learnings in a collegial and academically rigorous environment which includes in-house talks, seminars as well as other public events.
With the help of a mentor, the Fellowship will allow scholars to be part of the ongoing research projects in an area of interest to the scholar. Apart from a stipend of Rs. 25,000/- per month, the CBPS Research Fellows will also have access to office spaces and associated facilities including internet and use of the library. The Fellowship, however, does not provide funds for housing,
transportation, or any other financial support.

Who should apply?
The Fellowship is primarily geared towards scholars who have recently completed their Bachelor’s or are in the final year of their undergraduate programme. CBPS especially encourages applications from scholars from historically underrepresented groups, including those underrepresented in terms of class, caste, gender, religion, linguistic affiliation, firstgeneration scholars etc. Scholars from various disciplines and methodological approaches are invited.
