Museum of Solutions (MuSo) aims to empower children to become critical thinkers, innovators, and problem-solvers. Library of Solutions (LiSo), situated at the 6th floor of MuSo, is a free, child-led lending library of books and videos, games, tools, and other resources and know-how related to the museum’s mission. LiSo serves as a gateway to empower minds, inform and support the community and ignite a passion for reading, making, play, and exploration. Children and adults can find a serene and distraction-free space to delve into captivating books, videos, and games. LiSo also serves as a dedicated “quiet zone” for visitors with auditory sensitivities.

1. Reading Room Facilitator

About the role
Museum of Solutions is on a mission to inspire young minds through interactive exhibits and hands-on experiences. As a Librarian, you will play a crucial role in curating and managing our resource center, fostering a culture of exploration, curiosity, and learning among our visitors. You will have the unique opportunity to enrich the educational journey of children, educators, and enthusiasts through the diverse collection of resources at our museum.

Responsibilities

  • Procure, acquire, and maintain a comprehensive collection of books, magazines, digital resources, and educational materials suitable for children and young learners.
  • Collaborate with educators and content experts to ensure the library’s collection aligns with the museum’s mission and educational objectives.
  • Organize and catalog all library materials using a systematic approach.
  • Develop and maintain a user-friendly classification system to facilitate easy access to resources.
  • Implement and manage library software for cataloging, tracking, and user management.
  • Ensure the library space is well-maintained, welcoming, and conducive to learning.
  • Provide guidance and support to visitors, especially students, in locating and using resources effectively.
  • Plan and execute educational programs, workshops, and reading sessions to promote literacy and a love for learning.
  • Foster a culture of reading and exploration by recommending age-appropriate materials to visitors.
  • Assist visitors in accessing and navigating digital resources.
  • Collaborate with the museum’s educational team to integrate library resources into educational programs and exhibits.
  • Establish partnerships with local schools, libraries, and educational organizations to promote the museum’s library as a valuable educational resource.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Library and Information Science or a related field.
  • Previous experience working as a librarian in an educational institution, museum, or library is preferred.
  • Proficiency in library management software and digital resource platforms.

Mandatory Qualifications

  • Strong organizational skills and attention to detail for cataloging and managing library materials.
  • Excellent interpersonal and communication skills, especially when interacting with children and young learners.
  • Passion for promoting literacy, education, and a love for learning among children.

2. Retail Experience Associate

About the role
As a Retail Experience Associate at the Museum of Solutions, you play a vital role in creating a memorable and enriching experience for our visitors. You will be responsible for managing our museum shop, which offers a curated selection of educational and innovative products related to STEAM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Arts, and Mathematics). Your role involves ensuring the smooth operation of the shop, assisting visitors with their purchases, and promoting the museum’s mission of inspiring young minds through hands-on learning.
Responsibilities

Shop Operations:

  • Maintain the museum shop’s organization and visual appeal.
  • Monitor and manage inventory levels, including restocking and ordering products as needed.
  • Operate the point-of-sale (POS) system for transactions accurately.
  • Handle cash and card payments, provide change, and ensure cash register balances.

Customer Service:

  • Greet visitors warmly and assist them in finding products that align with their interests.
  • Answer visitor inquiries about products, prices, and the museum’s mission.
  • Provide an informative and engaging shopping experience, fostering a positive and welcoming atmosphere.

Visual Merchandising:

  • Collaborate with the museum’s curatorial team to curate and update the shop’s product selection.
  • Arrange and display merchandise in an appealing and educational manner.
  • Create eye-catching displays to attract visitors’ attention to featured products.

Promotion and Sales:

  • Actively promote the shop’s products and museum memberships to visitors.
  • Offer recommendations and insights into how products can enhance the learning experience.
  • Execute sales strategies to meet or exceed revenue targets.

Record Keeping:

  • Maintain accurate records of sales, inventory, and customer interactions.
  • Prepare daily, weekly, and monthly sales reports for museum management.

Key Skills and Qualifications:

  • High school diploma or equivalent.
  • Additional education or coursework in retail management is a plus.
  • Previous experience in a retail or customer service role is preferred.
  • Strong interpersonal and communication skills, with an approachable and friendly demeanor.
  • Ability to multitask and maintain composure in a fast-paced, visitor-centric environment.
  • Attention to detail and accuracy in handling cash transactions and maintaining records.
  • Knowledge or interest in STEAM-related educational products is advantageous.
  • Proficiency in using point-of-sale (POS) systems and basic computer skills.
  • Flexibility to work weekends and holidays, as museum hours may vary.
