Sangath is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation committed to improving health across the lifespan by empowering existing community resources to provide appropriate physical, psychological and social therapies. Its primary focus areas include child development, adolescent and youth health, and mental health and chronic disease. Started in 1996, it began as Goa’s first multi-disciplinary child development clinic based in Porvorim through the voluntary contributions of its seven founder-members. Sangath has now stretched its reach to become one of the state’s most influential health NGOs garnering local, national and international recognition.

1. Intervention Coordinator, Developing a peer-support intervention for persons with chronic severe mental illness, project funded by Pinterest Foundation (USA) Project, Goa

Sangath is a non-governmental, not-for-profit organisation headquartered in Goa, with hubs in New Delhi, Bhopal and Pune. Sangath in celebrating its 27th Year and has experience conducting high quality community-based research in child development, adolescent and youth health, adult mental health, ageing and chronic diseases and addictions as well as in health equality. Sangath has won the prestigious MacArthur Foundation International Prize for Creative and Effective Institutions (2008), was recognized as India’s 4th leading public health research institute by Research Councils UK (2015) and won the WHO Public Health Champion Award (2016).

The Addictions and related-Research Group based in Sangath is focused on building evidence for affordable and effective interventions for substance-use related disorders, to ultimately inform scale up through sustainable health systems. As a result of our success in designing effective and lowcost models of care for people with alcohol use disorders, Sangath has been able to contribute to improving the quality of addiction related care, not just in Goa, but in other parts of the country, and globally.

The Additions Research Group at Sangath, Goa is inviting application for 1 Intervention Coordinator for its Developing a peer-support intervention for persons with chronic severe mental illness, funded by Pinterest Foundation (USA) project.

About the project
Developing a peer-support intervention for persons with chronic severe mental illness, project funded by Pinterest Foundation (USA) project plans to develop and implement a digital peer support program for mental health in partnership with ‘Mental Health For All Lab’ within the Department of Global Health and Social Medicine at Harvard Medical School. The long-term vision of this project is to reduce coercion and involuntary treatment of persons with serious mental health conditions through peer-supported decision-making. The project activities will involve a scoping review, landscape analysis, semi-structured surveys, IDIs and FGDs.

Job Profile:

  • Primary responsibility to assist Principal Investigator, Site-Principal investigator and Project Coordinator with project tasks.
  • Design a treatment manual which describes the core strategies/elements making up the brief intervention, the logic model for selecting theses, and how theses will be delivered.
  • Work closely with the research team in assisting with data collection and research processes of the study.
  • Coordinate project management activities, resources, equipment and information.
  • Organizing project- based events, meetings and seminars, ensuring documentation related to the project are maintained, update information for the website and send monthly reports to the Managing committee as well as prepare biennial reports.
  • Being accountable to and working under the supervisor of the site-principal investigator.
  • Organizing community programs/training as and when required.
  • Participate in Sangath activities
  • Contribute to the growth of ARG
  • Draft scientific reports for publication.

Before applying, candidates must consider the eligibility criteria:

Essential Criteria

  • Post graduate degree in psychology or mental health-related field.
  • At least 2 to 5 years’ experience in coordinating research projects and working with the target population (individuals with mental illness).
  • Experience working in clinical setting with the target population.
  • Excellent language skills
  • Good Computing skills
  • Excellent communication/interpersonal skills, verbal and written
  • Ability to lead tasks and teams with confidence

Desirable Criteria

  • Training/experience in implementation research projects in India.
  • Experience in research grant management (5 years or more).
  • Knowledge of local languages – Hindi, Konkani, Marathi.
  • Ability to drive 2/4wheeler

Salary: ₹ 70,000 – 80,000 per month based on experience

Job Profile:

  • Designing the research tools / methodology
  • Supervision of data collection
  • Screen participants at recruitment site and provide study materials.
  • Data collection (interviews, focus groups) with participants and other stakeholders.
  • Code qualitative data
  • Ensure that data collection and management processes are completed.
  • Overseeing data entry and data analysis
  • Writing up of papers and reports
  • Assisting in research/intervention training courses
  • Attending all relevant meetings with the project team.
  • Submission of weekly/monthly inputs.
  • Traveling within and outside state for project activities
  • Reporting to the Project Coordinator.
  • Participate in other Sangath activities.

Essential Criteria

  • Graduate degree with experience in relevant work area
  • Familiarity with basic qualitative/quantitative data collection and analysis.
  • Good computational skills in MS excel and PowerPoint.
  • Experience conducting workshops and/ trainings
  • Excellent organizational skills and multitasking ability
  • Relocate to goa (for out of Goa applicants)

Desirable Criteria

  • Previous experience/training in relevant work area (1 years)
  • Knowledge of local languages – Hindi, Konkani, Marathi.
  • Previous experience of working with participant population.
  • Experience of working in an NGO (more than 1 years)
  • Ability to ride/drive 2/4-wheeler.

Salary: ₹ 25k to 30k based on expereince
