The Youth Internet Governance Forum India (YIGF) was founded in 2018 by Ihita Gangavarapu and Shahul Hameed. The vision of YIGF is to raise youth awareness on internet governance issues and encourage them to participate in informed technological developments and public policy discussions. Eventually, the initiative aims at building a new cadre of internet leaders motivated to learn, engage and take action to strengthen the internet governance policy ecosystem within the region and beyond.
After receiving recognition from the United Nations Internet Governance Forum (IGF) in 2018 and support from the India School on Internet Governance (InSIG), Youth IGF India has successfully organized five annual forums covering Delhi, Kolkata, Mumbai, Chennai, and Hyderabad. We have also empowered youth through multiple fellowships, year-round online initiatives and collaborations.
YIGF India Fellowship 2023 : YOUTH IGF INDIA is a platform recognised by the United Nations Internet Governance Forum. The 6th Edition of the YIGF India annual forum will be held on 28th September 2023 at IIT Guwahati.
The fellowship aims to provide focused mentorship and guidance to the best young minds who are enthusiastic and equipped with that urge to know and contribute to technology, policy and society.

Youth IGF India is a platform recognized by the United Nations Internet Governance Forum and supported by the India School on Internet Governance (InSIG). The Youth IGF Fellowship aims to provide focused mentorship and guidance to the best young minds who are enthusiastic and equipped with that urge to know and contribute towards technology, policy and society. We intend to achieve the following objectives:
Objectives
- To provide a platform to engage, collaborate and take action on internet governance policies and regulations.
- To help fellows build skills and knowledge in internet governance by engaging with domain experts.
- To help fellows understand the policy and technology space as a prospective career.
- Practically aid the understanding of the multistakeholder model of decision making.
- To provide them with a platform to forge connections with stakeholders in the internet governance landscape.
- Provide financial support to fellows to assist them in attending the annual forum to be held in Guwahati, Assam.
On completing the requirements of the first phase of the fellowship, fellows will be provided financial support to attend the 6th annual forum of Youth IGF India scheduled to happen in Guwahati, in-person. They will also receive a certificate after the successful completion (includes submit deliverables within the deadline) of the fellowship.
Eligibility Requirements
- Indian national currently living in India
- Age bracket 18-30
- Able to demonstrate an interest in the field of internet governance
- Experience in working with or contributing to IG will be a bonus.
- Must be available to engage in fellowship sessions and meetings actively.
Expectations from Fellows
- Able to dedicate 4 hours a week for three months
- Active participation in the conference
- Engagement in post-Youth IGF India sessions for fellows
- Commitment to actively engage and effectively contribute to the IG ecosystem post-event
- Should be available to travel to Guwahati, Assam to attend the 6th edition of Youth IGF India 2023
