Karuna-Shechen is an international non-profit organisation working extensively in India and  Nepal. The organisation acts and advocates for a more altruistic world catering to the needs of  the most vulnerable population. In India we have been working in the areas of Health,  Education, Environment, Food Security and Economic Development serving the needy  population in the backward states of Bihar and Jharkhand. Karuna-Shechen India works  through the SRPC Trust and follows the rules and regulations of the Trust. We have recently  started our intervention activities in Darjeeling, West Bengal, and are looking for enthusiastic,  motivated and altruistic individuals to join our team to serve the people in the remote villages  of Darjeeling. We work to serve the remote communities while fostering supportive and a  healthy work environment for our team members.

In line with the requirements of Karuna-Shechen India, we are looking for a qualified individual to  serve as the Area Coordinator under the Small Business Support project.

1. Area Coordinator (2 positions)

Key Details: 

1. Location: Darjeeling, West Bengal

2. Joining Date: Applications are considered on a rolling basis and will close as soon as  the candidate is selected. We would request individuals to apply as soon as possible  and not to wait for the application closing date.

3. Work Week: 6 days (Monday to Saturday)

4. Contract Duration: Full time

5. Reports to: Project Coordinator and. Country Director

6. Supervisory role: Not applicable

Job Overview: The Area Coordinator will be responsible for the implementation of all community  development programmes in the areas allotted to him/her. The position entails 80% fieldwork.

Roles and Responsibilities:  

Coordinating Roles: 70% of the time

  • Regular field visits to observe and support various programs
  • Ensuring effective community mobilization
  • Preparing daily and monthly plans of activities based on project objectives
  • Conducting trainings and workshops for the implementation team and community  stakeholders
  • Contributing towards maintaining an altruistic ambience in accordance with the  organization’s core value of altruism in action

Liaison Roles: 15% of the time

  • Liaising, networking, and building linkages at the field and block levels
  • Building relationships with stakeholders and partners

Reporting Roles: 15% of the time

  • Ensuring regular collection of data and updating project MIS (Management Information  System)
  • Reporting daily activities to the reporting officer
  • Following transparency and accountability in all practices
  • Maintaining proper feedback mechanisms with the reporting officer
  • Completing any other relevant work assigned by the reporting officer

Person Specifications:

  • Postgraduate degree in social sciences
  • A minimum experience of 5 years in community development
  • Not more than 35 years of age
  • Good contextual knowledge of the local issues, community relationships, socio-political cultural constraints and realities
  • Experience and comfortable on community mobilisation
  • Fluent in written and spoken Nepali.
  • Working knowledge of Hindi and English
  • Strong potential for negotiation
  • Strong communication skills
  • Self-disciplined and hard working

Salary for the advertised position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience.

In line with the requirements of Karuna-Shechen India, we are looking for a qualified individual to  serve as the Accountant.

2 . Accountant

Key Details: 

1. Location: Darjeeling, West Bengal

3. Work Week: 6 days (Monday to Saturday)

5. Reports to: Finance Head

6. Supervisory role: Not applicable

Job Overview: This is an entry level position in one of our field offices along with 30% of travel  to intervention areas. The Accountant will be responsible for managing all matters pertaining to  the financial aspects.

Job role and responsibilities:

Managing Role: 70% of the time.

  • Manage all accounting transactions
  • Handle monthly, quarterly, and annual closings
  • Reconcile accounts payable and receivable
  • Ensure timely bank payments
  • Compute taxes and prepare tax returns
  • Manage balance sheets and profit/loss statements
  • Audit financial transactions and documents
  • Update and implement accounting practices and internal control measures.
  • Reinforce financial data confidentiality and conduct database backups when necessary
  • Ensure compliance with relevant financial policies and regulations
  • Supervise the effective performance and control of all finance functions

Coordinating Role: 15% of the time.

  • Publish financial statements in time related to the projects.
  • Report on the organisation’s financial health and liquidity.
  • Be updated with knowledge of new regulations and changes in existing regulations

Integrating Role: 15% of the time.

  • Regularly update their reporting officer
  • Strictly maintain a proper feedback mechanism with his/her reporting officer
  • Follow transparency and accountability in all practices

Person Specifications:

  • Bachelors/Masters in Finance or Accounting
  • Minimum 5 years of work experience in Finance/Accounts
  • Not more than 35 years of age
  • Strong attention to detail and good analytical skills
  • Strong communication skills.
  • Self-disciplined and trust worthy.
  • Excellent working knowledge of Tally ERP 9
  • Experience of working with non-profit organisation is strongly preferred. Salary for the advertised position will be commensurate with qualifications and experience

3. Documentation Officer

Key Details:  

1. Location: Darjeeling, West Bengal

Job Overview:

The Documentation Officer will manage the entire documentation and filing system and  provide extensive support on overall documentation of reports, lessons learned, success stories, case  studies and events (meetings/workshops). This role requires 50% of local travel in hilly and remote  areas.

Roles and responsibilities:

Core Responsibilities: 70% of the time.

  • Develop and maintain documentation and filing system, both manual and computerized
  • Organize the storage and preservation of materials
  • Maintain a set of documentation for meetings and training sessions
  • Collect, compile, and produce case studies and success stories
  • Establish an electronic filing system and backup system
  • Keep records of updated training manuals, guidelines, and SOPs (Standard Operating  Procedures)
  • Work closely with the team in a coordinated manner to ensure proper functioning of the system

Link Responsibilities: 15% of the time.

  • Maintain a proper feedback mechanism with the reporting officer
  • Keep the reporting officer updated on activities and communications with internal or external  parties
  • Follow transparency and accountability in all practices

Systemic Responsibilities: 15% of the time.

  • Ensure the smooth operation of the documentation and filing system
  • Coordinate with team members to ensure the proper functioning of the system
  • Support the organization in maintaining and updating its knowledge base

Person Specifications: 

  • Master’s degree in communications, English, social sciences or other relevant fields.
  • Minimum 5 years hands on experience in communication and documentation roles, including but not  limited to documentation of case studies and success stories.
  • Not more than 30 years of age
  • Fluent in written and spoken Nepali
  • Proficient in MS Office applications. Experience in Photoshop, Illustrator and Corel Suite would be a  definite advantage..
  • Strong documentation & reporting skills.
  • Strong written and oral communication skills in English.
  • Outstanding organizational skills.
  • Multitasking ability.
  • Ability to work well as part of a team and independently.
  • Self-disciplined and hardworking

Salary for the position will be commensurate to qualifications and experience.
