Dalberg Research is looking for a Research Manager to join its Primary Research Team based in Dakar, Senegal.

ABOUT YOU
Reporting to the Primary Research Manager, you will be tasked with the successful delivery of research projects by undertaking research design, data collection and analysis and producing insightful, stimulating reports. You will take the lead in managing and delivering research projects, from scoping through to methodology and report writing, including managing, and developing client relationships.

Minimum Qualifications and Experience requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree in Economics, Statistics, Social Science or a related field with current membership/accreditation to at least one relevant national/international professional body.
  • At least 7 years’ experience with at least 2 years at a supervisory level managing and leading the execution of large research projects.
  • High level knowledge and exposure to quantitative and qualitative research methods and practices.
  • Experienced and skilled in research methodologies, analysis, working with web analytics data and tools.
  • Research design, such as devising interview and focus group topic guides, questionnaires, surveys, and evaluation frameworks.
  • Able to determine, synthesize and develop research solution to deliver insights to client.
  • Ability to drive documentation of processes to ensure utmost accountability to client expectations, highest level of integrity and upholding practice code of ethics throughout project execution.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office Suite, advanced excel skills, project management tools and techniques.
  • Expertise with Excel, PowerPoint, preferably SPSS/SAS and time-series analysis tool, NVivo.
  • Hands on experience in managing end to end project.

WHAT YOU WILL DO
The Research Manager role covers a range of ad-hoc projects, typically involving quantitative and qualitative research, working with clients locally and internationally. With our focus on developing new and better research methods and sophisticated analysis techniques, this role offers the opportunity to gain experience of several novel and exciting approaches to conducting research and interpreting data.

1 Project Related Tasks

  • Project management (coordination across project team, time and budget management).
  • Participate in both internal and external meetings with project partners and project stakeholders. Lead in client engagement where expected while maintaining high level of satisfaction.
  • Carrying out desktop research/literature review to understand the current landscape and identify data gaps that need to be filled through primary data collection.
  • Working in close collaboration with the project teams, develop research tools through soliciting guidance on the content and structuring of the questions and use approved tools for data collection.
  • Develop and utilize your network of local contacts to support our field operations in markets of interest.
  • Recruitment and training of the field teams as well as providing oversight and guidance in collaboration with our internal field teams.
  • Ensure high quality quantitative and qualitative data collection is carried out by your teams.
  • Oversee field coordinators in their supervision and quality checking of the field teams (in-field and office).
  • Support data cleaning and transcription.
  • Lead Dalberg Research contribution to the insights report, with support from Analytics team (where applicable) and your direct line manager and ensure recommendation that can facilitate Clients in making strategic decisions.
  • Support related deliverables from other departments (Data Processing, Location Analytics, Sector Leads).

2 Non- Project Related Tasks

i. Business Development

  • Identify opportunities for primary research within your region.
  • Lead development of proposals, budgets and EOIs, with support from the rest of the team, line managers and directors. Collaborate with other department to incorporate their input.
  • Pitch and defend our proposals where need be.
  • Work with other departments, sector leads and staff from other Dalberg entities on joint business development.

ii. Outreach

  • Identify new clients and partners who are regular consumers of primary research and insights.
  • Together with your line managers, prepare outreach and engage with prospective clients and partners over emails and calls to present our offerings.
  • Prepare business development material with relevant content for your region.
  • Understand the needs and priorities of prospective clients and partners. Identify opportunities where DR’s services can contribute to these needs and priorities.

iii. Integration within Dalberg West Africa

  • Introduce yourself to the Dalberg West Africa team.
  • Build a network and develop relationships by understanding individual interests and expertise.
  • Engage with staff from other Dalberg entities in business development and internal initiatives.

iv. New initiatives, process improvements

  • Lead or contribute to internal initiatives to develop new capabilities or improve existing capabilities.
  • Identify opportunities to improve internal processes. Contribute or lead internal process improvements.
  • The individual will also be expected to proactively take on other activities and support business and product development, if and where these opportunities arise.
