Watershed Organisation Trust (WOTR)  tackles the key causes of rural poverty by taking a holistic approach to rejuvenate rural communities and the ecosystems in which they live. The focus is on mobilising rural people and building their capacities to efficiently manage the land, water, and forests that surround them. Working at the grassroots, WOTR creates resilient rural communities that enjoy a fulfilling life within vibrant and sustainable ecosystems. By using an integrated Ecosystem-based Adaptation (EbA) approach; we regenerate degraded ecosystems to help rural communities adapt to climate change while expanding livelihood opportunities, improving health, nutrition and people’s well-being.

A little bit about who we are

At WOTR, we are committed to tackling the key causes of rural poverty by rejuvenating ecosystems and building the community’s resilience to climate change by enhancing Water availability, increasing land and agricultural productivity, diversifying livelihoods, empowering women, and strengthening the health and well-being of vulnerable rural communities.

WOTR brings together practitioners, academics, researchers, trainers, and policy makers to work collaboratively in building the resilience of rural communities. Our partners, including donors and government agencies stand resolutely behind us to effect this.

To date we have worked in 10 states in 4395 villages and impacted 4.43 million people in our 29 years of existence.

At WOTR, the Women Empowerment Team is a passionate team with stellar work that has been quietly working in the villages to form SHGs, reduce drudgery, and enable women to form micro-enterprises. Over the years, WOTR has helped form 13,185 SHGs supporting 159,764 women. Join the team and live the not so ordinary life.

Here is a brief snapshot of the role you are expected to play and what you are expected to bring to the table as the Lead – Women Empowerment and Health Promotion for Maharashtra

At WOTR you will

  • Design and implement programs aimed at promoting women’s empowerment and improving their health through capacity building and training on health, nutrition, sanitation, and women’s health. This will be carried out through women’s self-help groups and local village councils.
  • Encourage local gram panchayats to prioritize health, nutrition, access to safe drinking water, and sanitation, and involve women’s groups in these efforts.
  • Train and support the field team in setting up active health committees at the village level and conducting training programs.
  • Guide village teams, women’s leaders, and local childcare centers in monitoring the growth of children and evaluating the impact of health interventions.
  • Establish connections between the government and relevant departments to support health and development activities, such as health camps and other related initiatives.
  • Create project proposals and reports and assess the impact of the programs and manage data.

Apply if you have:

  • A passion for India and in addressing the changing climate scenario
  • A master’s in public health administration
  • 4-5 years of field experience
  • Strong time management skills and adherence to deadlines
  • Excellent networking and interpersonal skills that facilitate strong relationships with a wide range of people.
  • You are comfortable with speaking and writing in Marathi, Hindi and English
