Your responsibilities include, but not limited to

  • Job Purpose-Deliver and implement Environmental Sustainability targets in line with Novartis’ Environmental commitments. Drive implementation of the global environmental strategy, targets, and performance criteria across Novartis Operations
  • Strong program management leadership on strategic projects, risk mitigation to deliver ES targets and champion cross functional collaboration with business units and functions to drive implementation of ES plans
  • Drive and lead major Environmental strategic projects (Forestry program governance, Natural climate solutions). Define and drive the governance process, project and process improvement for the ES operations
  • Lead engagement to propose annual ES targets (leading and lagging) which align with our strategy and develop and implement the communication strategy that supports the ES organizational objective and delivers the goals and results to key internal partners and executives
  • Coordinate the preparation of key management meetings. Ensure appropriate functional input into the budget and delivery of agreed financial plans, institute effective budget controls
  • Tracking & reporting of inspections, internals & external audits, conformance and reviews including Pharmaceuticals in environmental (PiE), legal compliance. Effective tracking & reporting of new/emerging laws & regulations including plastics, EPR, AMR, water quality etc.
  • Mange multi-site certifications & report progress (i.e., ISO 14001, AMR, PSCI etc.,). Provides data management across internal sites/offices/labs & suppliers including requirements for various ESG rating providers like CDP, MSCI, Sustain analytic

Minimum requirements

What you’ll bring to the role

  • Experience in identification and management of diverse customers with superior interpersonal/influencing skills and Support implementation and sustainability of initiatives through effective change management by demonstrating the ES network
  • Develop networking within the group and enable sharing of standard methodologies and Identify and share processes across organization, performs external benchmarks where appropriate. Liaises with the EMO, governance boards and networks
  • Overall meaningful work experience of approx. 10 years, ideally at multi-national organizations, with knowledge and work experience in Environmental Sustainability.
  • High level of personal credibility, customer relationship management, networking. Ability to communicate effectively across organizations. Ability to balance resource demands from multiple internal customers.
  • Experience in leading high impact processes and implement of improvements across global/regional matrix organizations with cross-functional exposure.
  • Understanding of the organization and culture of Novartis becoming Unbossed, Curious and Inspired and Fluency (speaking and writing) in English required. Working knowledge of additional languages desirable (e.g. German, French, Spanish and Mandarin).

Desirable:

  • MBA with university degree in engineering, technology, geology, environment or another related natural/technical field. Advanced degree is highly desirable.
  • Minimum 10+ years’ experience in ES targets as aligned with ESG Committee annually / key achievements
  • Environmental laws & regulations that drive permit compliance, remediation cleanup requirements. Strong project management skills including managing multiple projects, financial accounting of consultant charges etc & compliance, contaminated site remediation with a significant portion being within pharmaceutical and/or healthcare industry.
