Job Description
Primary Function of Position:
As a member of both Intuitive’s team in India and the company’s Global Public Affairs (GPA) team, you will develop, direct and contribute to all facets of Intuitive’s strategy, operation and execution of government activities in India. You will lead our efforts to educate and engage policymakers, regulators and policy influencers, government officials at State & Federal levels, trade associations, chambers of commerce, professional societies and other key stakeholders across the political and health policy ecosystems in India.
This position will also be responsible for developing and implementing short-and long-term government affairs strategies that will support Intuitive’s commercial and policy-oriented objectives in India; promoting the company’s government affairs and business positions to relevant policymakers and policymaking bodies; providing counsel to, and working closely with, key business units and partners throughout the organization; and leading engagement and liaising with external stakeholders relevant in the government, policy & public affairs arenas.
Roles and Responsibilities:
Government Affairs
- Develop, implement and execute regional, national and local level specific government affairs strategies.
- Provide ongoing monitoring and analysis of policy developments likely to impact Intuitive, briefing local and global team members and leadership as needed.
- Cultivate and maintain relationships with decisionmakers and stakeholders relevant to Intuitive’s business, educate key audiences on our policy interests and positive impact of our technology.
- Draft, edit, and approve strategic and project-specific messaging and materials (briefing documents, talking points, FAQs, etc.).
- Build internal relationships with global executives, country managers, and cross-functional colleagues in areas such as marketing, healthcare economics, and clinical and regulatory affairs to drive and maintain alignment between GPA and other business functions.
- Collaborate and coordinate with members of Intuitive’s global GPA team engaged in areas such as Government Affairs, Media Relations and Advocacy.
- Manage government affairs agencies and external resources to execute strategic goals.
- Represent Intuitive at key industry or policy-focused organizations, actively contributing where needed
- Work across countries to support and drive public policy and government affairs strategies in India, the Asia Pacific region and globally in partnership with the GPA team.
- Ensure organizational clarity, assuring that the department’s activities, messages and materials support the achievement of broader public affairs, country-specific, and company-wide goals and policy objectives.
- Attend meetings, events and conferences to represent the company from a government affairs perspective, gather intelligence and identify engagement opportunities.
Qualifications
Skills, Experience, Education & Training:
- Bachelor or Master’s degree.
- 12+ years of experience in strategic government/public affairs, healthcare, or government at the state or federal level.
- Deep knowledge of India’s political system; with experience in public policy strategy, implementation and engagement (optimally with respect to healthcare); or significant experience in a similar corporate role.
- Knowledge of India’s healthcare policy, medical society and reimbursement systems is highly desirable. This includes familiarity with relevant Departments and Ministries, including DoP, MoHFW, MEITY, NDHM, Commerce, Finance, Niti Aayog, DPIIT, Indian Society of Oncology, Indian Association of Surgical Oncology, Association of Gynaecologic Oncologists of India and others; as well as the ability to advise senior leadership on key interactions with relevant stakeholders in this field regarding policy development.
- Ability to clearly and concisely communicate complex policies and positions on behalf of Intuitive.
- Ability to achieve success in a highly collaborative, fast-paced and team-oriented business environment, where results are dependent on a deep understanding of our business, the broader policy and health policy landscape, and the ability to identify risks and opportunities.
- Superior speaking and writing skills (including presentation skills) brought to all tasks, including synthesizing ideas into materials and developing policy and project-oriented messaging, memos, speeches, talking points and other internal and external documents.
- Excellent interpersonal and relationship-building skills.
- Ability to effectively analyze, write and deliver information and explain, advocate and negotiate positions and issues to a broad spectrum of individuals.
- Excellent organizational skills, especially ability to monitor and manage multiple projects simultaneously.
- Comfortable working in a highly matrixed environment and reporting in to Intuitive’s global corporate headquarters in California; willingness to take evening calls to make time zones work.
- Ability to travel throughout India to meetings and to Intuitive’s Sunnyvale, California headquarters, as required.
